NOTES: 1950 - OU wins it's first National Championship (awarded at that time prior to bowl games). 1952 - OU's Billy Vessels wins the Heisman Trophy 1953 - The game is televised nationally (NBC) for the first time. The Big Seven conference winner becomes tied to the Orange Bowl, but with a no repeat clause. 1955 - OU is placed on probation (no tv) for two years for recruiting violations. Although on probation, OU wins the National Championship (no rules existed at that time preventing teams on probation from appearing in the rankings). 1956 - Although still on probation, OU wins it's third National Championship. 1957 - Another riot breaks out after the game 1958 - First year of the 2-pt conversion choice after a touchdown. 1959 - The width of the goal posts were expanded from 18 to 23 feet.
